Biographical Record
Zhu Xi (1130–1200), honored as Master Zhu (*Zhuzi*), synthesized Song Dynasty Confucianism into an intellectual system that remained China's official state orthodoxy for seven centuries. Restoring the White Deer Grotto Academy, he drew hundreds of scholars into communal philosophical research and self-cultivation.
His metaphysical system posited that all entities are composed of immutable Principle (*Li*) and dynamic Matter-Energy (*Qi*). He elevated the 'Investigation of Things' (*gewu*) as the essential method to illuminate the moral principles inherent in the human heart and the universe.
