Founder of the Tiantai school of Chinese Buddhism whose 'Mohe Zhiguan' and 'Threefold Truth' harmonized all Buddhist scriptures under the supreme vehicle of the Lotus Sutra.

Biographical Record

Zhiyi (538–597 CE) was the first major Chinese Buddhist philosopher to create a complete indigenous systematic taxonomy of Buddhist teachings (panjiao).

Residing on Mount Tiantai, he formulated the Threefold Truth (emptiness, conventional existence, and the middle way) and the meditation masterwork Mohe Zhiguan ('Great Calming and Insight').
