Archival Overview
Patriotic pharmacist of Tlemcen who organized clandestine chemical and medical supplies for the ALN western front, executed alongside Dr. Benzerdjeb in 1956.
Biographical Record
Youcef Damardji was a respected pharmacist who operated one of the primary pharmaceutical dispensaries in colonial Tlemcen. An underground militant in the nationalist movement, he turned his laboratory into a covert procurement depot for surgical alcohol, ether, dressings, and chemical reagents needed by ALN combatants.
Working in close coordination with Dr. Benaouda Benzerdjeb, Damardji smuggled tons of medical aid into the maquis of Wilaya 5. Betrayed to colonial police in early 1956, he was subjected to brutal torture and executed, leaving a legacy of profound professional and patriotic sacrifice.
