Biographical Record

Youcef Abdjaoui was born in the breathtaking Akfadou mountains near Bejaïa. Moving to Algiers, he studied at the municipal conservatory under Hadj M'hamed El Anka, mastering the intricate fretboard of the Algerian mandole and the poetic meters of classical Melhoun.

Abdjaoui pioneered the adaptation of authentic Chaabi structures to the Tamazight language, authoring poetic masterpieces such as 'Yellis N'Tmurth' and 'Acugher Lhem'. His virtuoso mandole solos and emotional baritone made him one of the most admired musical figures of Kabylia.
