Archival Overview
Seventh Idrisid Sultan who reunited the fractured Moroccan principalities in 904 AD, acclaimed by chroniclers as the most just and pious Idrisid monarch.
Biographical Record
Yahya IV ibn Idris ibn Umar assumed the Moroccan throne in 904 AD. Overcoming internal divisions that had divided the kingdom among rival princes, he reunited northern and central Morocco under central authority from Fez.
Renowned for his profound legal justice, ascetic personal piety, and charitable state treasuries, he was acclaimed by contemporary historians as 'the best and most just of the Idrisid rulers'. He defended Moroccan sovereignty until the massive Fatimid invasion of North Africa under Masala ibn Habus forced his abdication around 917 AD.
