Biographical Record

Wolfgang Graf Berghe von Trips (1928–1961) was a German nobleman and star driver for Scuderia Ferrari during the golden era of European motorsport. Known affectionately as Taffy, von Trips won the 1961 Dutch and British Grands Prix in the dominant Ferrari 156 'Sharknose'.

Entering the Italian Grand Prix at Monza leading the World Championship, von Trips collided with Jim Clark on the second lap; his car went airborne into the spectator embankment, killing him and 15 spectators. He also founded the Kerpen kart track that later nurtured Michael Schumacher.
