Biographical Record
Warda Mohammed Ftouki was born in Paris to an Algerian father and Lebanese mother. Singing at her father's Parisian cabaret 'Tam-Tam', she became a prodigy performing patriotic songs for the Algerian National Liberation Front (FLN), which led to the family's expulsion from France in 1958.
Invited to Cairo by Gamal Abdel Nasser to participate in the pan-Arab operetta 'Al-Watan Al-Akbar', Warda rose to become the undisputed queen of Arab music alongside Umm Kulthum.
