Biographical Record
Vladimir Tamari was born in Jerusalem into a Greek Orthodox family and fled to Ramallah during the 1948 war. He studied physics and art at the American University of Beirut and Saint Martin's School of Art in London before moving to Tokyo in 1970, where he lived and worked for over four decades.
Tamari was an extraordinary polymath who patented the Tamari 3DD drawing instrument, which allowed artists to draw physically in three dimensions using optical perspective. He conducted research in quantum optics, painted delicate watercolor abstractions, and designed 'Al-Quds', a simplified, elegant Arabic typography font that revolutionized modern digital layout.
