Biographical Record

Victorio was born into the Eastern Chiricahua Apaches and grew into an exceptional military tactician alongside Mangas Coloradas. Vehemently opposing the forced confinement of his people to the desolate San Carlos Reservation in Arizona, Victorio bolted from the reservation in 1879.

Leading a band of roughly two hundred fighters, women, and children, Victorio waged a breathtaking guerrilla campaign across New Mexico, Texas, and northern Mexico, defeating overwhelming military forces in dozens of skirmishes until surrounded at Tres Castillos in 1880.
