Archival Overview

Danish nobleman and astronomer whose palace-observatory Uraniborg compiled thirty years of naked-eye astronomical data of unprecedented precision, shattering Aristotelian immutable celestial spheres.

Biographical Record

Tycho Brahe (1546–1601), famous for his gold-silver prosthetic nose worn after a student duel, was granted the island of Hven by King Frederick II of Denmark. There he constructed Uraniborg and Stjerneborg, the most advanced research institute in pre-telescopic Europe, housing giant brass quadrants and sextants.

Observing the 'New Star' (Supernova SN 1572) in Cassiopeia, he demonstrated through parallax absence that it lay beyond the Moon, refuting Aristotle's dogma of unchanging celestial spheres. Tracking the Great Comet of 1577, he proved that comets traverse planetary orbits, proving that crystalline solid spheres could not exist. His decades of precision data were bequeathed to his assistant Johannes Kepler.

Key Life Milestones

November 1572 CE

Observation of the Supernova (De Nova Stella)

Proved that the new exploding star was situated in the sphere of fixed stars, shattering the Aristotelian immutable cosmos.

1577 CE

Tracking the Great Comet of 1577

Demonstrated that comets move freely through interplanetary space, disproving the physical existence of solid crystalline spheres.
