Archival Overview

Eighteenth Dynasty Pharaoh celebrated globally for the discovery of his intact royal tomb (KV62) in the Valley of the Kings. Restored the traditional polytheistic religion of Amun after the Amarna period.

Biographical Record

Ascending the throne around age nine under the guidance of vizier Ay and general Horemheb, Tutankhamun reversed the monotheistic solar decrees of his father Akhenaten, moving the royal court back to Thebes and Memphis. He promulgated the Restoration Stela, re-endowing temples across Egypt.

Passing away around age nineteen, his golden burial chamber remained undisturbed for over three millennia until Howard Carter's historic unsealing in 1922, yielding humanity's most spectacular surviving treasure hoard of royal antiquity.
