Archival Overview

Legendary Maple Leafs defenseman renowned as the strongest man in hockey, four-time Stanley Cup champion, and founder of the Tim Hortons coffee franchise.

Biographical Record

Miles Gilbert "Tim" Horton was an iconic cornerstone of the Toronto Maple Leafs defense for two decades. Possessing immense physical strength and calm composure, Horton was famously celebrated as the strongest player in the NHL, anchoring four Stanley Cup championship teams in Toronto (1962, 1963, 1964, 1967).

In 1964, seeking financial security after hockey, Horton opened his first coffee and doughnut store in Hamilton, Ontario, which grew into Canada's largest fast-food restaurant chain. Tragically killed in a highway crash in 1974 while still an active player with the Buffalo Sabres, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
