Sir Thomas More was an English lawyer, judge, social philosopher, author, and statesman who served as Lord High Chancellor of England from 1529 to 1532 under King Henry VIII. Author of 'Utopia', he was a principal Renaissance humanist who chose martyrdom rather than violate his religious conscience by accepting the King's supremacy over the Church.
