Telmo Zarraonandia played fifteen seasons for Athletic Bilbao, embodying the Basque tradition of fierce physical commitment, extraordinary heading prowess, and selfless teamwork. He scored 335 goals for Bilbao across all competitions, winning five Copa del Generalisimo titles.

Zarra held the all-time Spanish league scoring record of 251 goals for sixty years until passed by Lionel Messi. At the 1950 World Cup at the Maracana, he scored the historic winning goal against England to secure Spain's best-ever World Cup finish up to that time.
