Theodore Samuel 'Ted' Williams (1918–2002), called The Splendid Splinter and Teddy Ballgame, was an American baseball legend who dedicated his life to the science of hitting. Spending his entire 19-year career with the Boston Red Sox, Williams had a career .344 batting average, 521 home runs, and the highest on-base percentage in MLB history (.482).

In 1941, Williams hit .406, remaining the last major league player to surpass the mythical .400 mark in a single season. Williams also sacrificed nearly five prime seasons serving as a Marine Corps fighter pilot in World War II and the Korean War.
