Record-holding twelve-time Prime Minister of Jordan who led the government during World War II, the 1946 independence treaty, and the 1948 war.
Biographical Record
Tawfiq Abu al-Huda was born in Acre and educated at the Imperial School of Administration in Istanbul. After serving in the Ottoman army during World War I and working in the Syrian government under King Faisal I, he relocated to Amman in 1922 to become director of the Department of Antiquities and chief clerk of the Executive Council.
Abu al-Huda served as Prime Minister of Jordan across twelve non-consecutive governments between 1938 and 1955, more than any other leader in Jordanian history. He signed the 1946 treaty establishing Jordanian independence, oversaw the integration of the West Bank following the 1948 war, and managed state affairs during the transition from King Abdullah I to King Hussein.
