Archival Overview

Brilliant chemistry student of the University of Algiers who established clandestine laboratories for the FLN during the Battle of Algiers, guillotined in 1958.

Biographical Record

Taleb Abderrahmane was born in the heart of the Casbah of Algiers into a modest Kabyle family. A brilliant student of science and chemistry at the University of Algiers, he abandoned his promising academic career to place his scientific mastery at the service of the National Liberation Front (FLN).

He established clandestine explosive laboratories in the Casbah and the surrounding villas, manufacturing devices utilized during the Battle of Algiers. Captured after escaping into the Chiffa maquis, he endured weeks of savage torture without yielding a single name, facing the guillotine on April 24, 1958 with a radiant smile and the cry: 'Tahya El Djazair!'
