Biographical Record

An intellectual strategist and lawyer, Tajuddin Ahmad (1925–1975) was the indispensable right-hand organizer of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the Awami League. Following the Pakistani military crackdown of March 25, 1971, Tajuddin crossed into India to organize the government-in-exile.

On April 17, 1971, he established the Provisional Government of Bangladesh at Baidyanathtala (Mujibnagar), swearing in ministers and coordinating the Mukti Bahini freedom fighters alongside Indian diplomatic and military assistance. He was murdered with three colleagues inside Dhaka Central Jail in November 1975.
