Biographical Record
Active from his youth in the Neo-Destour party, Taieb Mehiri directed the party's clandestine military operations and armed groups during the decisive years of armed struggle against French colonial forces in the 1950s.
Upon independence in 1956, Bourguiba appointed Mehiri Minister of the Interior, an office he held until his premature death in 1965.
