Archival Overview
Sacred prophet and cultural founder of the Cheyenne people. Summoned inside holy Bear Butte (Noahvose) by the Creator (Ma'heo'o), he received the Four Sacred Arrows and the Council of Forty-Four Peace Chiefs system.
Biographical Record
Sweet Medicine lived among the Cheyenne for four generations, performing healing miracles and teaching moral codes that transformed fragmented nomadic clans into a disciplined, democratic nation. At sacred Bear Butte in the Black Hills, he entered the mountain cavern to receive instructions from the Grandmothers and Grandfathers.
Before his passing, he prophesied the arrival of horses, the coming of the white man, the loss of buffalo, and the eventual spiritual resurgence of indigenous people through faithfulness to ceremony.
