"The people think of wealth and power as the greatest fate, but in this world a spell of health is the best state. What men call empire is a worldly strife and ceaseless war; worship of God alone is the highest throne."

Archival Overview

Tenth and longest-reigning Sultan of the Ottoman Empire (1520–1566). Known in the West as "the Magnificent" and in the East as "the Lawgiver" (Kanuni). Oversaw the golden age of Ottoman military supremacy, arts, and monumental architecture.

Biographical Record

Leading armies in thirteen major military campaigns, Suleiman annexed Belgrade, Rhodes, Hungary, and Baghdad, projecting Ottoman naval dominance across the Mediterranean and Red Sea. Partnered with his supreme imperial architect Mimar Sinan, he commissioned the majestic Süleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul.
