"History must not be written by foreign conquerors alone; the Arab has the right and the sacred duty to record his own triumphs and tragedies."

Archival Overview

Premier modern historian of Jordan whose landmark 1966 book 'T.E. Lawrence: An Arab View' provided the first Arab perspective on Lawrence of Arabia.

Biographical Record

Suleiman Mousa was born in the village of Rafeed near Irbid and was entirely self-educated in modern historical methodology while working for the Jordan Petroleum Refinery and the Ministry of Information, authoring over fifty books on Arab history.

In 1966, Oxford University Press published his international sensation T.E. Lawrence: An Arab View, which challenged Western orientalist myths by showing that Arab military commanders and fighters, rather than T.E. Lawrence alone, were the true architects and heroes of the 1916 Great Arab Revolt. His monumental multi-volume History of Jordan in the 20th Century remains the definitive record of modern Jordanian statehood.
