Biographical Record
Aurobindo Ghose was educated at Cambridge University and returned to India to become a militant leader in the early Indian independence movement. Imprisoned in the 1908 Alipore Bomb Case, he experienced a life-transforming mystical realization in his prison cell that redirected his entire purpose.
Withdrawing to French Pondicherry in 1910, Aurobindo developed 'Integral Yoga' (Purna Yoga), synthesizing Eastern spirituality with Western evolutionary philosophy. Alongside his spiritual collaborator Mirra Alfassa ('The Mother'), he founded the Sri Aurobindo Ashram and authored philosophical classics including 'The Life Divine' and the epic poem 'Savitri'.
