Archival Overview
Founding member of the Historic 22, survivor of the May 8, 1945 massacres in Guelma, who commanded the November 1954 offensive across the Mitidja plain.
Biographical Record
Souidani Boudjemaa was born in Guelma and witnessed the horrific colonial massacres of May 8, 1945, which permanently forged his revolutionary conviction that Algerian liberation could only be achieved through armed struggle. A daring operative of the Special Organization (OS), he operated under dozens of aliases across the country.
As one of the Historic 22 leaders who met in Algiers in 1954, Souidani was tasked by Didouche Mourad and Rabah Bitat with organizing the armed uprising in the crucial Mitidja agricultural plain surrounding Algiers. He fell heroically in combat at a colonial roadblock near Koléa on April 16, 1956.
