Sonja Henie

Sonja Henie (1912–1969) was a Norwegian figure skater who transformed ice skating from a stiff, pedantic exercise into a glamorous, athletic performing art. Henie won three consecutive Olympic gold medals (1928, 1932, 1936), ten consecutive World Championships (1927–1936), and six consecutive European titles.

She pioneered the short skating skirt, white skates, and dance choreography on ice. Moving to Hollywood, Henie became one of the highest-paid box office film stars of the 1930s, creating the touring ice show industry with Hollywood Ice Revue.
