Biographical Record
Sohrab Sepehri was born in Kashan and graduated with honors from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran. Traveling widely across Japan, India, and France to study woodblock printing and Eastern spirituality, he integrated Zen Buddhism and Taoism with classical Persian Sufism into a uniquely gentle, contemplative worldview.
Sepehri's collection Hasht Ketab (The Eight Books), featuring masterpiece long poems like Seda-ye Pay-e Ab (The Water's Footfall) and Mosafer (The Traveler), is among the most beloved in modern Persian literature. An acclaimed minimalist painter whose abstract tree trunks hang in international museums, his verses urge humanity to wash its eyes and look at nature with child-like wonder.
