Archival Overview
Unyielding Algerian patriot and freedom fighter who spent eleven years in colonial prisons and post-independence detention, dying of grief before the coffin of assassinated President Mohamed Boudiaf.
Biographical Record
Slimane Amirat joined the PPA in 1945, organizing clandestine groups in Paris before becoming a key logistical commander of the FLN Federation of France during the War of Independence, enduring multiple imprisonments.
Following independence, Amirat opposed single-party authoritarian rule, co-founding the MDRA with Krim Belkacem in 1967. Imprisoned and condemned to death under Boumediene, he was freed in 1975. On July 1, 1992, while weeping beside the coffin of his assassinated friend President Mohamed Boudiaf at the People's Palace, Amirat suffered a fatal heart attack in one of the most emotional moments in modern Algerian history.
