Archival Overview
17th-century Sufi saint and patron of the agricultural plains of the Chaouia, renowned for digging communal water wells and reconciling tribal conflicts.
Biographical Record
Sidi Masoud was a revered 17th-century ascetic and social arbiter in the fertile agricultural steppes of the Chaouia south of Casablanca. Dedicating his personal fortune to communal welfare, he financed the excavation of deep stone wells that saved local pastoral communities during historic droughts.
His zawiya in Nouaceur was an inviolable sanctuary where fugitive peasants found legal defense and food. His descendants and annual festival celebrate agricultural fertility, hospitality, and traditional equestrian fantasia.
