"O House, built with love and lost to deceit, your true foundations were always in the heart."

Archival Overview

Supreme classical master of Moroccan Melhun poetry whose timeless qasidas, notably 'Dar Sidi Kaddour', defined the golden age of urban lyrical song.

Biographical Record

A Sharifian mystic of the Idrisi lineage born in Meknes, Sidi Kaddour El Alami dedicated his life to spiritual contemplation and the composition of Melhun—intricate strophic poetry sung in sung urban vernacular.

When unscrupulous neighbors evicted him from his ancestral home, he composed the immortal lament El Dar ('The House'), which remains the most famous poem in the Melhun repertoire, capturing the tragic fragility of earthly possessions.
