Archival Overview
The supreme patron saint of Marrakech among the Seven Saints, whose mystical philosophy centered entirely on radical charity, feeding the poor, and social solidarity.
Biographical Record
Ahmad ibn Ja'far al-Khazraji al-Sabti was born in Ceuta and moved as a youth to Marrakech during the reign of the Almohad Caliph Abd al-Mu'min. Choosing a life of absolute voluntary poverty, he lived on the hills of Gueliz outside the city walls, dedicating every waking hour to comforting the sick, teaching orphans, and feeding the destitute.
His core spiritual teaching, 'The Divine Being exists through generosity', held that worldly fortune multiplies only when shared with those in need. Revered by Almohad caliphs and commoners alike, his sprawling zawiya in northern Marrakech remains the largest center of perpetual charitable soup kitchens in Morocco.
