Archival Overview
Historic patron saint of the fishermen and harbor workers of ancient Anfa (Casablanca), whose seaside sanctuary has guarded the Atlantic coast for seven centuries.
Biographical Record
Sidi Allal al-Qayrawani arrived in ancient Anfa (modern Casablanca) in the fourteenth century from Tunisia. Establishing his small hermitage and zawiya directly overlooking the crashing waves of the Atlantic, he dedicated his life to caring for shipwreck survivors, destitute sailors, and local fishermen.
According to maritime tradition, his daughter Lalla Khedidja became his closest spiritual disciple. To this day, the historic sanctuary of Sidi Allal al-Qayrawani, situated in the Old Medina near the port of Casablanca, stands as a sacred beacon of maritime protection and peace.
