Revered commander of ALN Wilaya 4 (Algérois), known for his military brilliance, profound modesty, and legendary slogan: 'If we die, defend our memories.'
Biographical Record
Ahmed Bouguerra, known throughout the revolution as Colonel Si M'hamed, was one of the most beloved and intellectually formidable military commanders of the Algerian War of Independence. Born in Khemis Miliana, he was an activist in the PPA-MTLD, Algerian Scouts, and the paramilitary Special Organization (OS).
Appointed commander of Wilaya 4 (encompassing the Mitidja, Ouarsenis, and Médéa mountains) following the Soummam Congress, Si M'hamed structured an extraordinarily resilient military organization that repeatedly repulsed French paratrooper offensives. On May 5, 1959, he fell in heroic combat at Ouled Bouachra, becoming an enduring national symbol of integrity and self-sacrifice.
