Disciple of Honen and founder of Jodo Shinshu (True Pure Land) who rejected monasticism, married, and proclaimed radical salvation through the absolute 'Other-Power' (Tariki) of Amida Buddha.

Biographical Record

Shinran (1173–1263 CE) spent twenty years in rigorous Tendai meditation on Mount Hiei before joining Honen's circle in Kyoto.

Exiled to Echigo in 1207, he married Eshinni and declared himself 'neither monk nor layman' (hiso hizoku), authoring the Tannisho and Kyogyoshinsho, which taught that faith itself is Amida's pure gift.
