Biographical Record
Shane Keith Warne (1969–2022), celebrated worldwide as The King of Spin, was a charismatic showman whose magical bowling revived the nearly extinct craft of leg-spin bowling. In 1993, with his very first ball in an Ashes Test in England, Warne bowled Mike Gatting with what became known as 'The Ball of the Century'.
Over a glittering international career, Warne took 708 Test wickets and was voted one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Century. He died suddenly of a suspected heart attack in Thailand in 2022, prompting grief across the global cricketing community.
