Fifth Mughal Emperor who presided over the golden age of Mughal architectural magnificence. Commissioned the Taj Mahal—the world's most famous monument to eternal love—alongside the Red Fort of Delhi and the Jama Masjid.

Biographical Record

Son of Emperor Jahangir and Rajput princess Jagat Gosain, Shah Jahan was an aesthetic genius who directed the design of monumental palaces, gardens, and cities. When his beloved empress Mumtaz Mahal passed away in 1631, he enlisted 20,000 master artisans to build the white marble Taj Mahal on the Yamuna riverbank.

Deposed in 1658 by his ambitious son Aurangzeb, he spent his final eight years confined within the Agra Fort, gazing through an arched window across the river at the tomb of his wife before being interred beside her.
