"I was the greatest of the great in the entire land, an architect who captured the stars upon stone."

Archival Overview

Master royal architect, astronomer, and confidant to Queen Hatshepsut who designed the architectural wonder of Deir el-Bahari and the earliest known celestial star map in world history.

Biographical Record

Of non-royal provincial origin from Armant, Senenmut entered royal service under Thutmose II before becoming the premier minister, tutor to Princess Neferure, and architect to Pharaoh Hatshepsut. He envisioned and built the terraced mortuary temple of Djeser-Djeseru at Deir el-Bahari, seamlessly integrating monumental colonnades into the living cliffs of Thebes.

His tomb (TT353) contains the oldest astronomical ceiling known to archeology, mapping circumpolar constellations, planetary alignments, and the decans with remarkable mathematical precision.
