Sarojini Naidu (1879–1949) studied at King's College London and Cambridge. Her poetic volumes, including 'The Golden Threshold' (1905) and 'The Bird of Time' (1912), earned praise from Edmund Gosse and Arthur Symons for their vibrant imagery of weavers, palanquin bearers, and bazaars.

A devoted follower of Mahatma Gandhi, Naidu led the Salt Satyagraha raid at Dharasana in 1930 and was elected first female Indian president of the Indian National Congress in 1925, later serving as Governor of Uttar Pradesh.
