Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel, popularly known as 'Sardar' (Chief), was an Indian independence leader and statesman who served as the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India from 1947 to 1950. Renowned as the 'Iron Man of India', he successfully integrated over 565 autonomous princely states into the Indian Union without major bloodshed.
