Eminent Bhakti saint, leather-worker (Chamar), and social emancipator who envisioned 'Begumpura' (a sorrowless utopian city of equality) and contributed 41 hymns to the Guru Granth Sahib.

Biographical Record

Sant Ravidas (c. 1450–1520 CE) plied his trade mending shoes on the ghats of Varanasi while achieving supreme spiritual realization, rejecting untouchability and ritual pollution.

He envisioned Begumpura ('The City Without Sorrow'), where there is neither tax, nor caste, nor oppression; queen Mirabai regarded him as her revered spiritual guru.
