Archival Overview
Brilliant Egyptian nuclear physicist and the first female Egyptian to earn a doctorate in atomic radiation, renowned for developing equations enabling the cheap production of medical nuclear radiation for cancer treatments.
Biographical Record
Graduating at the top of her class from Cairo University's Faculty of Science, she broke gender barriers to become the university's first female lecturer. She pursued her PhD in England, conducting groundbreaking research on the absorption of X-rays in matter.
Passionate about the peaceful, humanitarian potential of nuclear energy, she famously declared: 'I wish atomic medicine to be as cheap and accessible as aspirin.' She was tragically killed in a vehicle crash on a California mountain road during a research fellowship.
