Archival Overview

Gentle and sickly cleric of Carthage whose physical frailty was transformed into radiant moral courage during his execution alongside Montanus in 259 AD.

Biographical Record

Saint Lucius was a companion of Montanus in the clerical circle of Carthage. Frail of body and suffering from chronic wasting illness, his companions feared he would expire in the brutal heat of the prison pit before receiving the martyr's crown.

To their astonishment, Lucius walked ahead of the condemned procession to the execution grounds, urging the mourning crowd to remain steadfast in charity. He knelt with serene composure and was beheaded immediately before Montanus.
