Archival Overview
North African bishop of Thibiuca who famously refused to surrender the Holy Scriptures to Roman magistrates during Diocletian's persecution, beheaded at Carthage in 303 AD.
Biographical Record
Saint Felix was the respected bishop of Thibiuca (modern Zouitina, near Medjez el-Bab in the Medjerda valley). In June 303 AD, imperial commissioner Magnilianus ordered all Christian books and scriptures burned under the first edict of Emperor Diocletian.
Felix steadfastly replied: 'It is better for me to be burned than the divine scriptures.' Brought in chains before Proconsul Anullinus in Carthage, he refused all pardons conditioned on apostasy, declaring with his final breath his devotion to truth before being beheaded on July 15, 303 AD.
