Archival Overview

Companion of Saint Castus who endured trial, overcame initial fear, and sealed his redemption in the sacrificial fires of Carthage in 250 AD, honored across North African churches.

Biographical Record

Saint Aemilius was an inhabitant of Roman Carthage during the 3rd century. Arrested under Emperor Decius, his bodily strength momentarily collapsed under prolonged torture. However, filled with divine contrition, Aemilius returned to the amphitheater alongside Castus, confounding the proconsular court by welcoming fire and sword.

Cyprian recorded that the fire which consumed their flesh became their chariot of triumph, demonstrating that divine mercy transforms human fragility into heroic sanctity.
