"Victory in war is not decided by superior weapons, but by meticulous planning, discipline, and the warrior's unyielding will."

Archival Overview

Brilliant Egyptian military strategist and Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces who meticulously planned and executed Operation Badr, successfully crossing the Suez Canal and shattering the Bar Lev Line in October 1973.

Biographical Record

Lieutenant General Saad el-Shazly (1922–2011) was a highly decorated combat veteran who founded Egypt's elite Paratrooper Corps. Appointed Chief of Staff in 1971 following the 1967 Six-Day War defeat, Shazly fundamentally restructured military training, tactical discipline, and joint arms coordination.

Shazly authored the secret master plan 'Operation Badr' (Directive 41), engineering the simultaneous amphibious assault of five infantry divisions across the Suez Canal using high-pressure water cannons to breach the sand ramparts of the Israeli Bar Lev Line in October 1973. Regarded internationally as a masterwork of military planning, his crossing restored Arab military dignity.
