Biographical Record
Ronald Gideon Ngala was born in 1923 in Gotani, Kilifi District. Educated at Alliance High School and Makerere College, he worked as a dedicated teacher and principal in Mombasa.
Elected to the Legislative Council in 1957, Ngala led the African delegation to the historic Lancaster House constitutional conferences. In 1960, he founded the Kenya African Democratic Union (KADU) to protect smaller ethnic minorities through a devolved regional governance framework known as Majimbo. Serving as Chief Minister during transitional autonomy, he later merged KADU with KANU in the spirit of national unity, serving as Minister for Power and Communications until his tragic death in a car crash on Christmas Day 1972.
