Biographical Record
Carlos Roberto de Oliveira was born in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro state. Joining CR Vasco da Gama's youth academy as a teenager, he earned the nickname "Roberto Dinamite" at age seventeen when a sports journalist described his blistering goal against Internacional at the Maracanã: "The Dynamite boy exploded at the Maracanã."
Dinamite became the greatest idol in Vasco da Gama's history. Over two decades (1971–1993), he played 1,110 matches and scored 708 goals for Vasco, leading them to the 1974 Campeonato Brasileiro title and five Rio State Championships. He scored 190 goals in the national league—an all-time Brazilian Serie A record that remains unbroken today. For the Brazil national team, Dinamite earned 38 caps and scored 20 goals, competing at the 1978 and 1982 World Cups. After retiring, he served as a state deputy in Rio de Janeiro for five consecutive terms and was elected club president of Vasco da Gama in 2008.
