Biographical Record
John Robert Ouko was born on March 31, 1931, in Nyahera, Kisumu. Educated at Makerere University, the University of Addis Ababa, and the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna, he was widely regarded as one of Africa's most polished and articulate foreign ministers.
Ouko served as Minister for Common Market and Economic Affairs in the East African Community, and twice as Kenya's Minister for Foreign Affairs (1979–1983 and 1988–1990). On February 13, 1990, shortly after returning from an official state visit to Washington, D.C., Ouko was abducted from his Koru farm and murdered at Got Alila hill. The subsequent cover-up and Scotland Yard investigation by Detective John Troon triggered massive civil unrest that accelerated the repeal of Section 2A.
