Biographical Record
Gaidinliu was born in the Rongmei Naga village of Nungkao in present-day Manipur. At age thirteen, she joined the Heraka religious movement led by her cousin Haipou Jadonang, which sought to revive traditional Naga spiritual practices and expel British colonial administrators and missionaries.
Following Jadonang's execution, the sixteen-year-old Gaidinliu assumed leadership, leading armed guerrilla raids against British posts. Captured in 1932, she was sentenced to life imprisonment and spent fourteen years in prison until India gained independence in 1947.
