Archival Overview
Courageous female operative in the Casablanca armed resistance (Al-Mounaddama al-Sirriya) who concealed weapons and guided guerillas in Derb Sultan, martyred during an armed confrontation in 1954.
Biographical Record
Rahma El Mokhtari lived in the working-class nationalist quarter of Derb Sultan in Casablanca. Following the forced exile of Sultan Mohammed ben Youssef in August 1953, she joined the clandestine Black Crescent and Secret Organization cells led by Mohamed Zerktouni.
Disguised beneath her traditional haik, Rahma transported revolvers, explosives, and messages past colonial security cordons. On August 15, 1954, during a police raid on a safehouse, she helped her comrades escape before being fatally gunned down, becoming an immortal symbol of female Moroccan martyrdom.
