Biographical Record
Rabah Bitat was a key militant in the clandestine Organisation Spéciale (OS) in eastern Algeria. In 1954, as a founding member of the Revolutionary Committee of Unity and Action (CRUA), he took command of Wilaya IV (Algiers and the Mitidja plain) for the outbreak of the armed revolution.
Arrived in Algiers in early 1955, he was captured by colonial authorities and spent seven years in prison, where he staged hunger strikes for political prisoner recognition.
